The Centre for Energy Regulation (CER) at IIT Kanpur is India's first dedicated initiative for regulatory research in the energy sector. Established in 2018 with seed funding from the UK Government, CER strives for sustained institutional strengthening in the Indian power sector by fostering academia - utility - regulatory interactions. The Centre engages in research, capacity building, and policy advisory, working closely with Electricity Regulatory Commissions (ERCs) and other stakeholders. CER also maintains key platforms such as the Regulatory Data Dashboard, ERC Tracker, and Regulatory Insights Blog to support evidence-based policymaking and knowledge dissemination.
